No Man’s Land
– Chapter 21 pt 7
  – “the weiner republic” pt 90

» » »
» » Me mam useta say to us, “What a day, I’ve had.”

» Then, as I got passed eleven or twelve, she used to say, “What a week, I’ve had.”
Then, as I passed tirteen, she used to say, “What a month, I’ve had.”
» And, then, “What a year, I’ve had.”

» I’d seen her just this week and I knew what she was going to say, she began to say it and then stopped.  I did it for her.
» “What a decade, I’ve had.”
» She gave me a clout round the ear; never too old fer a hidin’.

» Today, I had had a day.

» I was at City Hospital, visiting Fran who was finally up and about.  Most of the voids in his body had been filled with cyto-scaffolding; the scaffolding had stem-cell acquiescent properties and had taken the roles to which it had been programmed.
» I didn’t tell him much about Baby-Boom, Jack or the disappearance of the invisibles.  He did not need to have anything stressful on his mind.  As for my mind?

» I had thought I would be doing some unusual babysitting but now I had six clients: two were relatively easy, Shalisa and Tod; one had two bodies, Anndora; and, the other three were an exploding ever expanding zone of divastation.
» At the end of every day, I thanked the God who I no longer believed in.
» And, thank fuck for José.

» I thought I had got away with a quiet day when I was corrected by reality.
» Jeri (paramour of Rosa and Jack) came out of the bedroom; thankfully, she was dressed.  Nice body, though.
» Jeri told me what had happened with Jack; the details were necessary.

» She had had difficulty getting Jack back into his clothes; specifically his trousers.  I knew that he could maintain an erection for a long time but usually he would at least soften a little; today he had remained engorged and hard.  Jeri did not think too much of that; that often happened with him.  But, his member’s refusal to bend made it near impossible to close his fly.
» She managed to get him to the u-bahn station but they had had to get off the train when he started to cook.  She took him to a toilet in that station and checked on his member.
» It looked bad.
» She called a taxi and brought him home to the apartments.  Rosa and Dora were not answering.  So, she took him to Rosa’s bed.  Rosa and Dora were already there.
» Jeri phoned me.

» I told her to get hotwater bottles for the girls and an icepack for the boy.
» I phoned José.

» Although not better, the three of them were more comfortable together.  I told Jeri to apply the cap to them, but she did not have time to do so as she had another job to do as Shalisa arrived.
» Where was Tod?
» Playing with his invisible friend, Jeri said.
» She took Tod and Shalisa upstairs to Jack’s place.  There was no supper, but Shalisa knew how to make tea and toast and how to feed Tod and order a pizza.
» I arrived at the same time as José.
» I checked them and took samples for José to kit-test.  I gave the trio the cap; they settled.  I then took Jeri to the kitchen and gave her a hug; she was distraught.
» I took her upstairs to Jack’s and asked Shalisa to look after her.
» The test-kits showed no infections; and, Jack did not have Sickle Cell Anaemia.
» I gave me girls some analgesics but was not sure what to do about Jack.
» I conferred with José.
» I phoned Mr Simmons.

» I gave her the history which was that the twins were bleeding heavily and Jack was priapic.  (Jeri had used the word “priapic” which reminded me to use it; she was an expert on the art and artefacts of fertility.)

» Rosa and Dora were quietly arguing.
» Did Rosa turn Dora “bi” by making her use a strap-on to fulfill her need for Jack?
» It was an intense, personal argument.
» Their argument was upsetting Jack who started to cry.

» José said softly to Jack: Don’t cry.
» Jack sat bolt upright and apologised.
» José looked at me confused.  I took him out of the room and told him that Jack could become submissive at times of stress.
» We went back.
» José sat on the chair next to Jack’s side of the bed, stroking his hair and said: It’s okay, Jack, it wasn’t an order.
» Jack lapped up the attention; he lay down again.  Rosa and Dora also settled.  The cap was allowing them to share out pain and anxiety; each was helping the other with specific strengths for the others specific weaknesses.
» For some reason, I turned on the cam on my nurse’s fob-watch.

» Jack took hold of José’s right arm.
– “You’re so good to us, José.  I’ve always liked you.  You’ve always been so caring and understanding.  I know you get some stick from the guys down at the firehouse, but anyone can be a fireman; it takes a real man to care, to look after someone.”
» José rubbed his own neck with his left hand.
« “Thank you, Jack.  I think you’re, well, pretty … I mean, good, you’re pretty good at what you do.”
» He hadn’t covered up anything.
» I exchanged glances with Dora and Rosa, Dora took my hand and I sat on the edge of the bed in that slightly uncomfortable legs-one-way top-of-the-body-another-way way.  We watched fascinated.
« “Thank you, José, you’re such a sweetie.  You know how much I like it when you join us on a trip or for meals?  I like having you around us.  Near us.  Near me.”

» Oh – my – God!

» Jack touched José’s block of chest; his lips trembled his eyes quivered and filled.  José took Jack’s right hand with his left hand, he had meant to take it away, but instead he held Jack’s relatively small hand in his hand against his heart.
» José was losing focus.
» Jack got out the big guns.
– “You’d never leave us, would you, José?  Please?  I’d die without you near.  I’d die.”
» He looked away, his eyes overflowed.
» José wiped Jack’s face with a hand then made shushing comforting sounds as he remembered how what he had said before had hurt Jack so deeply.
» Jack looked away with a relieved smile.
» José kissed Jack’s brow.
» Jack made a dirty sex noise and his mouth was ever so slightly open, displaying teeth and tongue.
» José stuck his tongue in Jack’s mouth.
» Oh, we girls were guilty and turned on; but we just watched as our boys snogged and yummed and caressed each other.
» Jack broke the kiss and pulled José onto the bed, turned his bum to him and wrapped José’s big right arm under his head.  He punctuated it with a kiss.
» José stroked Jack’s body and Jack made soft happy sounds.  José’s face was visibly shocked by the attention he was giving to Jack.  I knew he felt right about it.
» The trio giggled and laughed and held hands; while José and I looked at each other.
» The trio incidentally reminded us to uncap them when they said as one: “We love you, Nula and José.”

» Was it just Jack or was it Jack, Dora and Rosa who had seduced José while they were “on”?

» Later, I “used” the video (with José and Jack kissing) once and then deleted it.
» Oh, shut up.  You weren’t there.
» José and I had been trained to give in to possibly therapeutic encounters of sex with them; either that or there would be a whole revolving set of carers; replaced one after the other as the trio went through them.  We, of course, had to report each incident; and their apartments were wired with surveillance, anyway.

» Three hundred years ago, mind capping was banned.
» Simmons said that the communication by cap and hormone between them had become an information feedback; when Jack was “separate” from the twins, his mind and body had just amplified all the signals; his endochrine and gland system had sought out the nearest thing to a vagina & uterus and flooded it with as many chemical signals as it could.
» His brain totally burnt out trying to find his vagina & uterus; it had become trapped in an amplificatory feedback loop which would not take “no such address” for an answer.  But, it was an endearingly affectionate burn out.
» Yet, once they were capped, the complementary processes in Dora & Rosa were also eased; their aggression had nearly led to another fight.

» This was a bad and a good day.
